Anyone who knows me will probably remember that I love to collect Martha Stewart holiday magazines. I’ve blogged about them many times before and I truly look forward to the Christmas editions each year. I never throw any of them away and I set them out as part of our holiday decorations. Of course, I was excited about the holiday issue of Martha Stewart Living and I love the bright red cover filled with amazing decorated cookies. So fun!
There are some great features in this edition such as:
- Handmade wreaths
- Homemade gift ideas
- Ribbon glossary
- Latke toppings
- Winter meals
- Forest-inspired cookies
The one that really caught my eye this time was the feature on making personalized clip-art greeting cards. I thought this one would really be of interest to a lot of my readers and I love the creative ideas that are included.

Tips for success:
- Have the subjects pose as if they are holding an object or have something on their heads.
- Use a plain background - The people and pets should be the sole focus of the photograph. To get this effect easily, pose people in front of a white wall (remove any frames or decorations). You can also use painter’s tape to hang an ironed white bedsheet on the wall and pose in front of that.
- Make it fun – wear festive outfits, hats, etc. and just let everyone show their own style!
You will find the article on pages 134 and 136 of the magazine and you can use a variety of clip art and/or digital scrapbooking supplies to put together your own unique cards. If you aren’t into the digi stuff, then just print out the pictures and find some fun punches or stamps to put on top of them for the accents. It’s a very simple idea, but so clever!
The Martha Stewart website also just launched the official 2013 Countdown to Christmas with some great videos with holiday gifting and décor ideas you can do yourself. The link is here: http://www.marthastewart.com/952629/countdown-christmas
