Fight the winter blues!

Today is the 3 month mark since my daughter left on her mission. I'm happy to report that she is doing well and is loving Iowa. She says it's colder than anything she has ever experienced, but she is happy to be serving and has a great attitude. One of my favorite parts of being a missionary mom is putting together a fun package to mail her each month. There are other times I need to send her something she needs, but I try to do a fun theme type of box once a month to help her keep her spirits high and to send her some love. January seemed like the perfect time to put together a "fight the winter blues" kit!

I always try to include plenty of everything so she can share with her companion. She has a great companion which is awesome! They both enjoyed the blue nail polish for something fun and I know the snacks are always welcome. I printed out the little winter card using digi supplies from this cute kit at Sweet Shoppe Designs.  If you aren't familiar with the LDS faith, you might wonder what the magazines in the top left corner are? It's a monthly publication put out by the LDS church called The Ensign and it's filled with inspiring articles. The issue included here is all about baptism and I sent two of them so her companion could also have one. They are very limited on what they can read - just scriptures and a few church materials so I know they appreciate something that's approved to add to their studies.

I think this kind of package would be fun to send to a college student or anyone who is away from home. There are a lot of ways you could tailor it to different circumstances. I had a great time putting this one together. I'm already working on her February package filled with red and pink things. I have to admit that I don't usually go through the grocery store or Target shopping by color, but it's kind of fun!

I'm glad she is in the United States so I can send her fun boxes like this for a reasonable price. Missionaries serve around the world so it's not always so easy to send these types of packages. Iowa has been a great place for her so far. She loves the surroundings and most of all, she loves the people!
