Watercolor inspiration

I've always admired watercolor painting and I'm naturally drawn to this type of art. I know artists who take photos to use as their inspiration and then turn those images into watercolor scenes and I love seeing the results. I know I've blogged about the Waterlogue App before, but I've recently been inspired after Katrina Kennedy has been posting several Waterlogue creations on her instagram feed. For some reason, that was the prompt I needed to realize that I could dig out some of my favorite photos from many years ago and run them through the app to create masterpieces.

Flowers from Pike Place Market in Seattle. Oh, how I love the bright colors!

The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. Good light in a photograph = good light in a painting!

The Oregon coast on a cloudy day. The subtle colors of the photo come to life in a new way in this Waterlogue version. It just reminds me that looking at the same image through a different filter is a great creative exercise.

Flowers at Home Depot. Inspiration can easily be found in the most ordinary places!

A lighthouse in Oregon. This is a favorite for sure.

I haven't use Waterlogue on people pictures in the past, but Katrina inspired me to do that when I saw this image. Now I'm in love with the idea! I feel like I'm looking at a memory in my mind when I see this sweet scene of my husband and daughter on a beach in California back in 1998.

Who remembers the peeled orange thing in Disney's California Adventure? I always thought it looked so neat in photos and I was sad when they took it down. This picture is from 2003 and it's fun to have a captured moment of how the park looked back then.

I'm always a fan of flowers. These are from a hotel lobby in Las Vegas from 2012. Watercolor + flowers + perfection!

Now I'm really in the mood to print a few of these and frame them to display in my house. I think I'll be looking at my older photos in a new way as I search for more watercolor inspiration!
