An early 50th

My parents will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in September, but we decided to surprise them with a little celebration this past week while we were all on vacation together in Cedar City, Utah. My brothers and their wives were there with my parents and me, Jeff, and Alex so it was the perfect time to commemorate this great milestone.

Pardon the lighting, but we were in a rental condo so I didn't have a lot of control over that. There are not any fancy bakeries in Cedar City so we made do with a grocery store cake.

I brought some gift bags and party favors with me that I purchased at Target. It was simple, but festive and we totally surprised them.

The three kids and our spouses all chipped in to get them a gift certificate to a very nice hotel for an anniversary getaway. We also put together a book of memories for them by having each person write a page about what they have learned from my parent's marriage and then I created collages to go on the opposing side of each spread. I love the We R Memory Keepers gold album I used for this.

I wrote out questions and had my parents answer them. I recorded them with my voice memo app on my iPhone and I have shared the recording with them and all my siblings. It is already a treasure!

I used the back of some of the leftover banner cards and just hand wrote the questions.

Nothing fancy, but it was so much fun to hear their answers. We all learned things that we had never known about before! I think sharing memories like this is the very best way to celebrate! I'm going to do more of this with my husband and kids. It's such a great way to connect and get to know each other even better.

We may have been 2 months early, but I thought the timing was perfect. It was definitely a day to remember!
