Photogene

I've been trying to whittle down my phone photo editing apps to keep just the ones that I really use and it's been a great exercise for me to understand how I like to approach editing. I'm still enjoying A Color Story on my iPhone, but it's not available as an iPad app at this time. I really prefer to edit photos on my iPad because of the bigger screen so that makes Photogene my current favorite editing app. I love the iPad version of Photogene more than the iPhone version so I guess it all works out in the end. Both of the apps I've just mentioned are for Apple products - sorry Android peeps!

Here's a photo I took at Cactus & Tropicals a few years ago. I'm sure I used some basic phone editing before I uploaded it into my files. I love all the textures of the plants.

The biggest reason why I love Photogene is because I can control all of the adjustments. I love using sliders so I can tweak the images to my liking.

I also love that you can save the full size resolution or resize for the web right in the app. There are also plenty of social sharing options.

Here's how my original image looks after making a few slider adjustments.

There are also plenty of wonderful presets available if you don't want to mess around with editing by eye. I love that you can preview the presets and move back and forth between different ones while you are deciding which look you want. I'm using the "drama" preset on this one.

This one is the Black and White high contrast preset

I like the look of the Vintage cross-processed preset.

You can add frames like this classic one. So quick and easy!

You can even go for some fun edits like this psychedelic option.

You can have a lot of control over retouches and even paint on effects or use tools like a healing brush. This is a very powerful app!

If you are trying to narrow down your list of photo editing apps (there are so many!) I would suggest that you consider Photogene as one of the keepers. I've been using it for years and I still love it!
