I can’t help but talk about the weather at this time of year. January is usually pretty cold and dreary around here. Now, I’ll readily admit that our cold weather is much more tolerable than a lot of other places because we don’t have the humidity that can make it so miserable. We also don’t get into crazy negatives like my digi friends in Canada experience. We did have the coldest January of my life though and everyone around here complained about it.
When I read these facts from the National Weather Service (on facebook) for the Salt Lake area, it got me thinking about how much the weather impacts our lives. We had some major inconveniences in our own life because of the January weather. I also had a very scary experience driving in the freezing rain where 2 cars almost hit me. It made me happy that we don’t usually have freezing rain around here.
When I read this tidbit about the January snowfall, it brought back a memory for me. I remember the snowy January of 1993 because we lived in an apartment that was on the ground level, but it was much lower than the parking lot that we could see out our sliding glass door. When they plowed the parking lot, they piled the snow up in big drifts that blocked the view out our windows. All we saw for the entire month was a wall of white snow.
Another weather related memory for me from January was the cold weather I experienced in Anaheim when I was there for CHA. It was in the 40s while we were walking around Disneyland and it was miserably cold, which is funny to me since the other day it reached 40 degrees here for the first time in ages and it felt wonderful! I totally laughed when I saw this video about the overreaction to cold weather in Los Angeles because I was there to witness it.
I really think that talking about the weather (and complaining about it when it’s bad) is something that we all have in common as human beings. It is something that we all experience together and it can make or break a lot of our plans. What kind of weather have you had lately? What are your thoughts about the weather? What would you consider to be the perfect temperature? Talking about the weather is a perfect activity for a Memory Monday!
