Have you seen the forecast?
I saw this weather forecast floating around Facebook a few days ago and it made me chuckle. There are some who believe we will all be gone tomorrow when the Mayan calendar flips and we cease to exist. My kids both became concerned about this possibility early in the year when they started to hear talk of how the world would end on December 21, 2012. I assured them that it would not end and told them that we would have a party that day to celebrate. We have been joking about our “end of the world party” for quite a while now and I’ve had to remind them that people have gone through these fears before. I remember everyone being very freaked out about the whole Y2K thing when the calendar switched from 1999 to 2000 and it ended up being a big non-event.
In case anyone has fears about all of this, here are some great resources to help:

We plan to have some fun and document our day of December 21, 2012. I’m thinking it would be cool to serve some Mayan food and it looks like chocolate should totally be in the plan!
We have a silly card game called Munchkin Apocalypse so we are going to play that.
I think we should also listen to R.E.M.’s End of the World song.
If anyone else has some fun family-friendly ideas for making the end of the world more fun, please feel free to leave a comment! I’ll be back tomorrow…unless the world ends. Then at least I won’t have to worry about not having all my Christmas shopping done yet!
