Every year, Wikipedia posts information on how to donate to the site to keep it going. Over the next few months, you will see donation messages displayed more prominently across the top of the Wikipedia main page. My son informed me yesterday that the official fundraising campaign is now underway and he reminded me again of the commitment I made to him a few years ago. You see, my son uses Wikipedia several times a day, every single day. He loves to read Wikipedia articles. He goes on what he calls “Wiki Walks” as one subject leads to another. When he read this message from Jimmy Wales, he asked me to please donate each year. And not just $5.00, he wanted to know if we could give more. I told him that as long as he reminded me each year, I would always donate generously. After all, he gets endless hours of happiness from the site. He is like a walking Wikipedia himself.
When he told me the time had come for our annual donation, I asked him to send me an email reminder since I can hardly be counted on to remember anything these days. This is the message he sent me:
Without Wikipedia, I never would have found some of the info about rock stars I now have. - Alex Nelson
I love that he signed his full name. I love that he feels that learning about rock stars is what will convince me to donate. I love his loyalty and commitment. So I’m off to send my monies to the Wiki. Happy to donate. Long live Wikipedia!

P.S. I’m excited to announce the winners for the Scrapbooking Mystery giveaway. Congratulations to Belinda and Amber M.! I sent you both emails with all the details.
