For many years my son used the term “nahsta-la-gista” and we were never quite sure what he was referring to. We finally figured out that he thought he was pronouncing the world “nostalgic” when he said it. I guess that’s what happens when you can read at an adult level when you’re just a tiny kid. Every time I think of getting nostalgic, I always pronounce his way in my head. lol! I’ve definitely been on the nahsta-la-gista path lately as I’ve been scrapping several pages from his first year of life.
At the hospital after he was born

Journaling: Alex spent most of the time at the hospital in the nursery because he needed extra care & oxygen. I didn’t really get to see him until the morning.
Great Grandpa & Grandma Smith came to visit along with Grandpa Jerry, Grandma Lynda, & Amanda.

Journaling:
Dad didn’t even bring a change of clothes and I’m pretty sure he didn’t stop to shower (or even sleep very much) the entire time we were in the hospital. He didn’t want to leave your side and he was also trying to take care of me as well. We were all pretty exhausted after the birth, even the doctor. When Dr. Hansen came to check on me the next morning, he was limping! It’s not easy to bring a big guy like Alex into the world, but I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat because I ended up with the best son in the whole wide world!
I actually got a little teary when I put the title on this one.

First Halloween

Journaling:
We went to the Jones house first so we could catch Mike and Zach before they went out trick-or-treating. Mike was dressed as a lawyer and Zach was a skeleton. Grandma Kathy had one of her festive Halloween sweatshirts on. Grandma always decorated up the house with a lot of Halloween decorations so it was fun to go and visit. When we went to visit the Nelsons, we just stayed around while they answered the door for trick-or-treaters. I’m pretty sure that Dad and I ate homemade donuts there since that was an annual Halloween tradition in their family.

Journaling:
Since Alex was only 23 days old for his first Halloween, it’s probably safe to say that it wasn’t that big of deal for him. It was however, a great excuse for us to dress him up and show him off with visits to both of the Grandparents. I remember being so excited to find these Halloween jammies and bib at the grocery store and I couldn’t wait to see him wear them. I bought them before he was born and because he was so big, they barely fit him by the time Halloween arrived. He looked like a perfect little pumpkin though and we had a great time celebrating our first Halloween as proud parents.

Something Wonderful by Bella Gypsy

Journaling:
We look like such young parents here, and I guess we kind of were. I was twenty-four years old when you were born and Dad was twenty-five. I had finished college but Dad was still in the middle of his schooling. The rest of the journaling is has too many private details for the internet so I’m changing it for the web version. I’m just filling in the words so it looks like the same design. I share a lot online, but I don’t want to put the names down of places we lived and worked . I’m sure you understand.

We were so excited to take you to get your first official pictures taken. We knew that portraits of you would be the perfect Christmas gift for all the Grandparents. We splurged and bought you this fun sweater and jeans from Baby Gap. We went in the middle of the day so it wouldn’t be too crowded and lined up at the Kiddie Kandids kiosk in Cottonwood Mall. We had to wait out in the middle of the mall before it was your turn and we ended up seeing someone from Dad’s work. That person went back to work and told Grandpa Jerry and Grandma Lynda exactly where they had seen us and ruined the surprise of the photos. Oh well, they still made for great gifts and the pictures turned out great. Even though you were only 2 months old, you did a great job of posing like a little stud for the camera!

Journaling:
We always drove to the old hometowns the day after Christmas to see Dad’s grandparents. It was fun to be able to take Alex with us this year! He’s the first Great Grandson on both sides! More changed journaling so I could share this on my blog. I’m not leaving out anything of interest, just stuff about names and places.
What a trip down memory lane. I just love the nahsta-la-gista part of scrapbooking! I’m also quite proud of myself for doing so much scrapping this month. If you look at this post and the past few days on The Daily Digi, you will see that I’ve been a busy scrapbook lady!
