I’ve always been a school/office supply junkie, I think a trip to Office Max is great fun! I guess it’s no surprise that we are pretty well stocked up in the school supply category around here. I wish I felt the same way about grocery shopping! Here are some of our “picks” for supplies we love:
Avery 1.5 inch View Binders – I have bought other brands and other sizes, but these are by far our favorite binders. They hold up nicely, and I love being able to change out the spine and covers when we reuse them for different subjects.
HP Printer/scanner. I’ve used HP printers for at least 15 years. For some reason, last year I decided to switch and buy another brand. That was a huge mistake! That was a dud of a printer. Now I’m recommitted to Hewlett Packard and I’m particularly happy with the model I have right now. I try not to print out a lot of our materials because we can do so much online, but I do have to print out several assignments/tests each week for school. I’m finding that I’m printing a lot more this year now that my daughter is in high school. She prefers the hard copies of a lot of the material instead of just reading on the screen. I can totally respect that she has a different learning style for that.
Dell Laptops. I know it’s extravagant that we each have our own laptop, but we do all of our school online. We need that flexibility! We run Windows 7 Home Premium on all of them.
Dell Studio 15 in pink for the girl
Green for the guy
Their Studio laptops weren’t that expensive and they have been really great little laptops so far. I have a Dell XPS 15 (which was more expensive) that’s less than a year old and I can’t say that I really love it. It’s so much bulkier and heavier than the last one I had (aren’t they supposed to get thinner and lighter?) It only has 2 usb ports, which drives me crazy since I always have a mouse + an external hard drive plugged in that take up both ports. It works great, but I will definitely go with something different next time.
It’s interesting to me that the only one of these tools I used when I was in school, was a binder. I used a Trapper Keeper – remember those? School was pretty low-tech back in my day!
