Somehow, I’ve gotten into a “retro” theme this week, without really intending to do so. You can probably tell that I’ve been browsing through my old photo files. I had fun creating a layout with this old photo from 1984 of me cleaning my room.

Journaling:

I’m guessing that my Mom took this picture of me because I was actually cleaning my room. I didn’t do a lot of that when I was 15 years old, which was one of the benefits of having a room in the basement. My room was in a dark corner of the basement and I thought that if I just kept my door shut, it shouldn’t bother anyone if it was messy. It drove my Mom crazy though. Every once in a while it got so bad, that I actually decided to clean it. What’s funny to me about this photo, is that I’m holding a broom. My room was carpeted, so I’m not sure what I was using the broom for?

Twenty years

Today I’ve been married for 20 years. Wow! As I was looking back through all of our wedding pictures, this one stuck out to me for some reason. It’s a “reject” photo really… it’s blurry and no one is looking at the camera, except for my silly husband. But somehow it captures a great feeling. The day was crazy. So much planning went into the whole thing and we were all trying to pose “just right” for the wedding photos here. We all seem to be very distracted by something else going on. I love that he just threw his hands up in the air to be silly for whoever happened to be pointing a camera at him at that moment. If I had to sum up what my life has been like with this amazing man for the past 20 years, maybe this picture would be the perfect way to illustrate it.

No matter what’s going on around us, he just keeps going and makes it fun (and/or bearable) somehow. I love him for that! I couldn’t ask for a better soul mate.

Memory Monday–Babysitting My Brother

I’m 12 years older than my brother Michael, and 19 years older than my brother Zachary. As a result of our big age differences, I spent a good deal of time as a babysitter, especially with Mike. I actually loved tending my brothers and enjoyed the time I spent with them. I have to say that I was an excellent babysitter. I even let my brother jump on my parents’ bed while they were away! Notice the joy on his face? That’s a kid who loves it when his big sister is in charge!

Picture taken by me circa 1985 with a film camera so I had no idea if I captured the moment until the pictures came back. I can only imagine what my Mom thought when she saw the prints. LOL!

I also thought it was important that my brother got a chance to practice his photography skills at the tender age of 4. Can you believe that he took this picture? It still makes me laugh. I’m just about to hit the pillows! Good babysitter, right?
