I've been trying to think of a fun way to recap the year 2008 and I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head that I would still like to try. But when I saw this blog entry by Brian Auer of Epic Edits, I just knew I had to borrow this format! He also did this as a project entry for the challenge on Jim Goldstein's blog so I think I will submit this entry as well.
Here are my photographic highlights of 2008:
January

I started the photo a day project and decided to be more experimental in my shooting. I even got daring enough to chop off heads on purpose. I also started taking pictures of everyday objects. I picked the word "Create" as my one word to inspire me in 2008.
February

I became more aware of how to use natural light in my photos. I discovered that north facing windows are wonderful for natural light. I had fun exploring colors and I tried to every color family I could in my photography. I experimented with self portraits and even captured my own blurry image in a black plastic plate. I participated in a photo challenge to take pictures at ground level which is something I had never done before.
March

Happy Birthday to me! I got a new camera and a yummy cake in March and I enjoyed both of them! Ironically, the only picture in this group taken by my new Nikon camera is the globe photo. My Sony cybershot still got a lot of use.
I took the cake photo for the Iron Chef photo challenge on Neil Creek's blog (the subject was a fork).
April

This was my best photography month of 2008 for sure. We went to Depoe Bay, Oregon on vacation and I took my Nikon D40 camera with me. The scenery was breathtaking! A seaull landed right in front of me and even posed for a photo session. :) We also went to an aquarium and I captured the Jellyfish shot with my point and shoot Sony cybershot camera. That photo made it to explore on flickr.
May

After a late and long Utah winter, I was thrilled to shoot some flower photos in May. I bought an inexpensive macro filter for my Nikon D40 which was a wonderful purchase!
For some reason, May of 2008 was the month I took the fewest number of photos. Not sure why. Maybe because I took so many photos in April?
June

June was a month of photographing color. I had fun with newly blooming flowers. I also photographed several of our summer homeschool projects. My favorite picture of the month was the one with my little niece hugging my daughter. I love that I was able to capture her look of pure joy.
July

This was a boring photography month for me. I just didn't feel the motivation for a lot of creativity. I was busy with redecorating my living room and enjoying summer.
August

August was another slow photography month for me. We did take some walks where I got some nice scenery shots. We alo started homeschool which was a big deal because my daughter joined us. Now I homeschool both of our kids using the k12.com online academy program.
September

September was a beautiful month weather wise for us here in Utah. We went on some fun field trips to Thanksgiving Point in Lehi and Daybreak in South Jordan, so I had some great photo opportunities.
October

We went to Walt Disney World on vacation and I had fun taking a bunch of pictures. I had even more fun putting the camera away and letting the Disney Photo Pass do the work for me though. October is one of my favorite months and I just love fall colors.
November

We traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to visit my family for Thanksgiving so it was fun to have a different place to take pictures. Most of the pictures I shot in November were simply to finish off my photo a day project. I really struggled with taking a photo every day but I felt very compelled to see this project through to the end.
December

December was all about photographing the Christmas season. I worked on Ali Edwards December Daily project and so I took pictures to go with that. I did finish my photo a day project for 2008!
...
I learned so much about my own strengths and weaknesses as a photographer by reviewing my photos this way. This was a great exercise to do!
